We believe that none of us are
good enough for God. We've all done stuff to let ourselves down and our
standards are far lower than God's, so realistically none of us can claim to
have lived lives pleasing to God. Living our own way and not
acknowledging God in everything we do is the what the Bible calls 'sin' (and
you thought that word just applied to murderers and child-abusers). But
actually we've all fallen short of God and are therefore sinners. The
Bible says that the just punishment of sin is death, and therefore as
sinners we all deserve to face God's anger for and eternal
condemnation. All pretty depressing so far!
However, the reason that Christians are so weird and excited at times, is
because of what we believe Jesus did for us! None of us can please or impress
God, because only perfection is pleasing to Him, but Jesus (God's own son -
fully man and fully God) came and lived a perfect life in our place and because
of what He has done for us, God can look upon us as perfect, because Jesus did
it for us! We didn't deserve it. God sent Jesus simply because He loves us and
knew we'd never make it alone and Jesus offers us eternal life, so that we
needn't fear death! For a more detailed
